Home Health Aide Morning Class

Scope of Practice:

  • Assist the patient with personal care and activities of daily living, and safety supervision, chart in the medical record, and report to the agency RN Supervisor.

  • Personal hygiene, toileting, and incontinence care.

  • Bathing, shaving, hair care, and routine skin care.

  • Oral hygiene including denture care.

  • Dressing and undressing.

  • Assistance with mobility: ambulation, transfers, positioning, and prescribed range of motion exercises.

  • Prevention of pressure ulcers.

  • Apply non-sterile, dry dressings to intact skin surfaces, or may reinforce an existing dressing.

  • Empty or change Foley catheter bag.

  • Empty or change Colostomy bag.

  • Care of hearing aides, glasses, and prosthetic devices.

  • Nail care (filing OK, but no cutting nails).

  • Obtain and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations.

  • Meal planning, preparation, serving, and feeding.

  • Measure and record "in-take" and "out-put."

  • Remind or assist with pre-poured medications.

  • Light housekeeping, maintain a clean and healthy environment.

  • Home safety, emergency preparedness, CPR, and Heimich maneuver.

  • May drive and / or escort on errands, shopping, doctor appointments
